In 9 years:

The romantic things he's never done!!

Romance novels and chic flicks have taught me important things about love. After nine years of marriage to a man who is NOT a knight in shining armor, I submit my list of romantic things my hubby has NEVER done:

He's never told me "you had me at hello". But he did tell me "I waited all night to kiss that smile" and then when he proposed said that he never wanted to stop kissing my smile! He has made me smile every day since we've been married, and has kissed me every day that we have been together.

He's never given me a dozen red roses and a box of chocolates.  But he has always provided me with a roof over my head, a vehicle to drive, and the blessing of being a stay at home mother.

He has never chased after me with a forgotten glass slipper. But has chased me down with forgotten grocery lists, ear buds, my cell phone, church supplies, kids, and many other things I have left behind.

We have never driven off into the sunset, with the windows down and nowhere to go. But we have driven to a different state every summer for the past 6 summers. With impatient kids in the back, happy meal toys strung about, gold fish crackers crushed on the floor boards, and nothing but the road ahead, we created the most unforgettable memories.

He has never kissed me upside down in the rain.  But he has kissed me and held my hand on every rainy, and upside-down day, I've ever had!

He has never yelled at me to come back after a fight, rather he has never yelled me... Ever. He does not fight with me even when he knows I am wrong.

He has never chased me down in airport to keep me from getting on a plane. But he has dropped me off at the airport.  I was  pregnant and  had three kids... getting on an 8 hour plane ride. This is where he said goodbye to us for the summer. It was one of the hardest things either one of us has ever had to do.

He has never left me in the middle of the night just to return to say how sorry he was for ever thinking of leaving me! But he has left me in the middle of the night to get me saltine crackers and a coke. . . And sometimes even some Ben and Jerry's.

He has never had to be by my side and watch me battle some terrible disease. But he has been at my bedside, gently kissing me on the forehead, running his fingers through my sweaty hair, and holding my hand, as I brought our 3 beautiful children into this world. (And I sure hope he makes it home for our fourth.)😜 He looked at me on those nights like I was the most beautiful girl in the world; beautiful beyond my looks.

He has never swept me off my feet and carried me for miles. But be has swept our kids off their feet, carrying one on his shoulders, and one on his hip while we walked through sea world in the humid, 115 degree weather.

And lastly, He has never held my hands in freezing cold water and told me "I'll never let go." But he did hold my hands across an alter and promised me an eternity with him. That promise is better than any chick flick, or romance novel ever written!

"There is a rumor, an urban myth, a fiction, a fantasy, a black and white screen cliché that love looks like the mad, romantic dash through airports for a last chance at a flailing kiss. Then the lights come on and the credits roll. And we must go back to our real lives where we forget that love really lives."
